Preview Screening of The Bodyguard

A couple of days ago, I was invited by Clover Films to attend the preview screening of 'The Bodyguard' which is premiering on the 7th April 2016.

The Bodyguard is a Hong Kong-Chinese action drama film which is directed by Sammo Hung. Andy Lau serves as one of the film's producers while also making a special appearance. The movie plot is about a retired bodyguard who suffers from early dementia. He is a lonely old man who befriends a young girl. When the young girl’s life is in danger due to her father's (played by Andy Lau) connection with a local mobster, the former Bodyguard uses all his long-forgotten skills to save her.

I was pretty disappointed by this movie as being a martial arts fan, I have waited close to 2 decades for a movie directed by Sammo Hung, but I was left sorely disappointed. Despite the action-packed thriller settings, I found the show a slow-paced drama about a haunted civil servant bodyguard who is struggling with dementia.

From the movie posters and trailers, Sammo Hung peppered his cast with martial arts stars from the past and also from the present which include Yueh Wah, Yuen Biao, Eddie Peng and famous director, Tsui Hark, but they were hardly involved in the action at all. WHAT A WASTE!
