Preview show of Great World Cabaret

Let's re-live and enjoy the 'Bo Bo Cha Cha' feeling of the good old days...

'Great World Cabaret' is a nostalgic show to welcome the start to Singapore's Jubilee Year, and is a must-watch show for the whole family, as it plays a big part of SG50.

I had the opportunity to attend this local musical play, 'Great World Cabaret' all thanks to my good friend, Samuel.

Thanks SEED Image for the wonderful pictures!

'Great World Cabaret' is performing from Feb 19 to Mar 17 2015, at Resorts World Sentosa Theatre. Tickets are available at Sistic and the Resorts World Sentosa from SGD48 onwards.

I experienced the time in Singapore's history at the local nightlife in 'Great World Cabaret'.

The show begins with an old security guard, Simon Tay (played by Shane Mardjuki) who is closing an exhibition about Great World, but later reminisces about his youth, and the scene changes to when he was the host of the Great World Cabaret! His singlish was pretty stilted and he couldn't convince me as a grumpy old man. Lastly, his role as a emcee is plain as well.

During the show, he describes his relationship with a taxi girl but I barely see their romance as much as it is a fleeting description in between scenes.

The show is a collaboration between local theatre company, Dream Academy and Resorts World Sentosa which star Seong Hui Xuan as the iconic Rose Chan, Aisyah Aziz as Malay folk singer, Kartina Dahari and Joanna Dong as singer, Sakura Teng.

My favorite scene was the medley of Mandarin and Malay songs from the trio! The dazzling costumes and mass dances are worth mentioning.

I love the performance from Drunken Sailors loads!

The only segment I had been waiting for is the stand-up comedy by guest performer Valentiko (starring Mark Lee) who stole the whole show as he lit up the audience moods with his Hokkien-infused jokes.

This play features different stand-up comedian each week, and guest performers are Mark Lee, Hossan Leong, Sebastian Tan and Judee Tan. Look out for your favorite guest acts in the coming weeks. The stand-up comedy series are written by local playwright, Alfian Sa'at and popular blogger, Benjamin 'Miyagi' Lee.

Though the story plot is rather thin and lack of energy, but nevertheless, 'Great World Cabaret' is still pretty entertaining.
