Retrolicious Reunion! at Fort Canning Park

Following successful runs over the last three years, Retrolicious brought back the top acts (Belinda Carlisle, Rick Astley and Bananarama) who previously graced the Retrolicious stages and they were here once again for a night of 80s mania. They were back to entertain the crowd with their large repertoire of hits from yesteryear, and it was the first edition of RETROLICIOUS REUNION!

 

RETROLICIOUS REUNION! is organised by Class 95FM and Running Into the Sun, and it made glorious history with the invincible 80s pop trio share the same stage at Fort Canning Park for the very first time.

 

 

Boosting an absolute stellar lineup comprising 80s iconic pop acts - Belinda Carlise, Rick Astley, and Bananarama, I am happy to say that it was the BEST 80s music extravaganza ever.

 

 

All thanks to Class 95FM, we got complimentary VIP tickets to the most looked-forward to Annual Music Festival.

 

 

 

 Baby and I entered via the VIP entrance at the venue and we had an hour to go before the free flow of drinks and food began… We were there early as we wanted to ensure we had a good viewing spot later for the concert...

 

 

Baby got a photo together with his favorite Class 95FM DJ, Glenn Ong at the entrance...

 

 

We took some pictures before heading up to the VIP section...

 

 

 

It was cooler up at the VIP area, as fans were fixed for our indulgence... I enjoyed the VIP benefits very much, apart from having free flow of drinks and food, but the most important and the best thing for me is that I don’t have to use the port-a-loo when natural calls struck...

 

 

Upon entering the premises, we were given the finger lights... OM! I looked down the crowd from the VIP section, it looked so awesome and it was a beautiful sight indeed. The sea of light swayed along with the music as people raised their hands up in the air with the light rings that were provided...

 

 

Belinda Carlisle was the first act to be up on stage and she lit up the entire concert-goers mood with her popular hit, ‘I Get Weak’. She then treated the crowd with a string of her chart-toppers, like ‘Circle in the Sand’, ‘Leave A Light On’ and ‘Summer Rain’. The crowd including myself were dancing and sang along to the tunes... Lastly, she closed her set with her smash hit ‘Heaven is A Place on Earth’.

 

 

The 47-year-old, Rick Astley kicked off his performance with ‘Together Forever’, and he charmed the crowd with his iconic deep vocals. He brought us to a whole new level as he sang some songs which are not retro but will become retro songs one day. He performed a cover of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’, Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ and switched up to ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, a classic song from Kylie Minogue.

Sadly to say all things have to come to an end, and Rick Astley closed his performance by singing his most well-known hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. We sang along at our top of our voices and lungs…

 

 

The last act of the night was English Female Pop Duo Bananarama, comprising of Keren Woodward and Sara Dallin. They delivered an electrifying and dynamic 'LIVE' 80s music performance...

They opened their set with ‘Cruel Summer’, and the crowd got thrilled with their smash hits like ‘Venus’, ‘I Heard A Rumour’ and ‘Love In The First Degree’. I was so carried away by their music that Baby and I synchronized our dance moves and hand actions along with the tunes...
 

 

I expect more from Bananarama as I had seen them performed at F1 Night Race 2012, their set was sadly the shortest of the night. Oh man!! I was kinda disappointed.

 

I had a blast of an evening of dance and music, and it was definitely a sing-along and wildest night for all the concert goers (included Baby and myself) A sweet nostalgia night for me, indeed!
