The launch of Great Eastern Women's Run

'Scorching me' witnessed the success of the Launch of the Great Eastern Women's Run (GEWR) at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park Grand Lawn 1.

More than 200 women have registered for GEWR which is commencing on the 10th November 2013, and they gathered at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park Grand Lawn 1 as part of the launch for Asia’s largest women-only marathon.

The launch of the GEWR was planned as a family-themed carnival and many families attended the carnival despite the scorching sun.

To rouse the carnival atmosphere, there was face painting and balloon-sculpting activities and a free flow of hotdog buns, candy floss, popcorn and drinks from 100PLUS to keep families well-fuelled for the physical activities.

In today’s society, women juggle more than one role each day and they have kinda neglected or did not prioritize their health as much as they ought to, and therefore the Life Company, Great Eastern Life is calling families, friends and even colleagues to rally behind the runners this year as they embark towards a healthier lifestyle.

The females who were here at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park have experienced the first-hand activities that organizers have planned as a lead-up to Race Day on 10 November 2013.

The Live Great Fitness Fiesta had demonstrations of the latest dance crazes in Singapore such as Bokwa and the Tahiti Dance.

There is a 2 ½ hour Live Great Fitness Fiesta for the women during the carnival, apart from only women’s activity, there was a scrapbook-making competition and mini-soccer for the fathers and children as well as a photo booth and the carnival concluded with the outdoor screening of ‘Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted’ for the entire family under the stars!

Families at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park were also the first to mark their support and love for the women in their lives by pledging on a physical board.

Alternatively, families, friends and colleagues who are keen to support their loved ones as they take up the challenge of living healthier can do so virtually, with the implementation of Digital Pledge Boards.

Pledges can be made online throughout the race campaign and even on Event Day through FB page and www.greateasternwomensrun.com

The Great Eastern Women's Run, commissioned by Great Eastern Life and organised by HiVelocity Events Pte Ltd, will take place on Sunday, 10 November 2013.

Participants will run past iconic landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands, Merlion Park, Esplanade, Singapore Flyer, F1 Pit Building and upcoming Singapore Sports Hub. The start and finish points will be at The Float@Marina Bay.

The GEWR will feature three categories. The first women-only Half Marathon returns and this year runners who successfully complete the 21.1km category will receive an adidas Finisher tee as a reward for their victory. This marks the first time a Half Marathon event for a Women’s run in Singapore has awarded Finisher tees to their runners.

Leisure runners can register for the “5km Live Great! Fun Run” category while a new sub category has been added for the 10km this year where runners from the same company can sign up in teams of four if they don’t wish to run alone.
Registration is now open. The early bird promotion concludes 31st July 2013. Similarly, Great Eastern policyholders, OCBC cardholders and 2012 Great Eastern Women’s Run loyal runners will also enjoy a special rate until 31st July 2013.
